Hello everyone, my name is Angélica, and I am a mother of two boys, Paul (12) and Timmy (9). For the past 15 years, I have worked in the French Market in New Orleans, where I have a small stand selling handmade ocarinas. I also drive Uber to support my children and keep our family going. For many years now, it has been just my two boys and me doing everything I can to move forward.
Taqueria 2 Brothers was never originally a dream I imagined running alone. We bought the restaurant on August 27, 2021, just two days before Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana. The restaurant was named after my sons — the “2 Brothers” behind everything we do — and it was originally meant to be a family business built around their father’s passion for cooking. After Hurricane Ida, we finally opened our doors on September 29, 2021, just after my youngest son Timmy’s birthday. Only weeks later, Jefferson Parish closed the street in front of our restaurant for a reconstruction project that lasted nearly two years. Business became extremely difficult, but thanks to construction workers, nearby businesses, neighbors, local restaurant owners, and our loyal customers, we survived.
Life changed unexpectedly, and I suddenly found myself trying to run a restaurant on my own while raising my two boys. I am not a chef, and I never imagined carrying this responsibility alone, but I kept fighting because I did not want to lose everything I had worked so hard to build for my children. And now, after surviving Hurricane Ida, years of construction, financial struggles, and many difficult moments, our restaurant recently suffered a fire. Thankfully everyone is safe, and the damage was not as severe as it could have been, but the costs of repairs and recovery are overwhelming.
Today, I am asking for help to rebuild Taqueria 2 Brothers so we can reopen our doors and continue serving the community we love. Donations will help cover repairs, equipment, and reopening expenses while we recover from this unexpected tragedy. Any donation, no matter how small, means more than words can express.
