Assalammualaikum and hello,
My name is Melissa and I am a mother of two boys living as a PR in Brunei.
I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but today I am reaching out during one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
Three years ago, I lost my husband yazid, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. In the years that followed, grief weighed heavily on every part of my life. I made a deliberate and exhausting effort to remain present for my two sons. They became my anchor and my hope during some of my darkest days.
Recently, our lives were shaken once again.
I have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive form of blood cancer. With no family history of cancer and no genetic cause, this was not something I ever anticipated. I am currently undergoing extensive medical evaluations, and following these assessments, my doctors have advised that a stem cell transplant is required as part of my treatment.
While I am currently medically insured, my coverage is insufficient to meet the expected cost of a stem cell transplant, with my existing medical policy capped at SGD 100,000. Unfortunately, the estimated cost of the stem cell transplant alone ranges between SGD 200,000 to 300,000, and this figure covers only the treatment itself. It does not include hospital stays, medications, follow-up care, travel, or living expenses during recovery.
Despite actively pursuing all available options and insurance approvals, there is a very real possibility that coverage will not be sufficient or may be delayed at a critical time. The financial gap is overwhelming, and it is one I cannot bridge on my own.
Asking for help does not come easily to me, and this has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but I have reached a point where I can no longer face this journey alone.
This fundraiser has been created to help cover the costs of my stem cell transplant and essential medical care, so that I can focus my energy on fighting this illness and being present for my sons.
Every contribution—no matter the size—brings me one step closer to the treatment I urgently need and eases a burden I've been having to carry.
If you are unable to donate, I would be deeply grateful if you could share this campaign instead. Your kindness, prayers, and support mean more to me than words can express.
JazakAllahu khair for taking the time to read my story and for standing with me during this difficult journey.
