A Letter From a Mother Asking for Help

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but here I am, asking for help with humility and honesty.

In September of 2024, I made the most difficult decision of my life: I left a seven-year abusive relationship. I didn’t leave because I felt strong or prepared. I left because staying was no longer safe for me or for my six children.

I am a mother of six.

Six hearts depending on me.

Six little worlds I’m trying to keep steady while my own has been shaking.

The months since leaving have been some of the hardest I’ve ever known. There were moments of fear, grief, uncertainty, and exhaustion that felt unbearable. But there were also moments of resilience, of choosing to keep going, even when I didn’t know how.

After months of navigating systems, paperwork, waiting lists, and holding on by faith alone, we were finally given a chance at stability.

✨ We were approved for a housing voucher and secured a home. ✨

This home represents safety. Healing. A place where my children can sleep without fear and begin to feel rooted again.

But right now, we’re facing one final obstacle. I do not have the means to move our heavy belongings into the new home. A moving company is scheduled to arrive this Monday, and the cost is between $1,375 and $1,790 for a 4-6 hour job and is more than I can manage on my own. Because the move is time-sensitive, delaying it could risk everything we’ve worked so hard to secure.

Asking for help feels incredibly vulnerable. As a mother, I want to be the one who provides, protects, and figures it out. But right now, I need community. I need kindness. I need help carrying this last, heavy step.
