We are a group of neighbors fundraising for our friend Mary, whose husband was taken into ICE detention in October. He has been in detention since then, which has caused his family immense pain and deprived their household of the primary breadwinner. Mary, her husband and their young son fled violence in their home country. They have been in the United States for four years. They filed asylum claims after entering, and have worked hard while here in the U.S. to obtain their work permits, find legal work, build a life for their family and contribute to their communities. Mary makes less than $15 an hour working to help homeless and hungry people in our community. We have been working to support her and her young son's rent, their legal fees, medical expenses and help with general household bills.
