Help a Mom Recover After Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
Hi there. My name is Shanda, a native of Augusta, GA, and I am raising funds on behalf of my mom, also a native of Augusta, GA, to support her as she recovers from the impact of Hurricane Helene.
Have you heard the saying “when it rains, it pours?” That’s been the story of my mom, Cheryl, over the last few weeks. In mid-September, she learned she was being laid off from her job due to lack of work/budget reasons, leaving her financially insecure since she relies on each paycheck to make ends meet. Then one week later, on September 27, 2024, her rental home was destroyed by Hurricane Helene. Two trees fell onto the roof and broke through in the kitchen and living room, leaving a gaping hole that has made the place unlivable until the home owner can have crews make repairs. We thank God everyday that the bedrooms were spared because while a home is replaceable, my mom’s life is not.
While my family is doing everything we can to support my mom as she navigates these challenges, we are also managing additional costs due to the storm and she could really use the immediate aid of community. Federal and state efforts are slow and uncertain and everyday she incurs additional costs that comes with temporary shelter, such as hotel fees and replacing medicine (she’s Diabetic), toiletries, and food that has been lost because it could not be properly stored and cooled since the storm has caused statewide power outages.
Any amount of goodwill you can share at this time would be greatly appreciated and go a long way to restoring her faith that even though sometimes when it rains, it pours, joy can come in the morning.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your consideration!
