Help a military member reunite his dog with his family

Hello. My friend and I are in the military currently stationed in Germany. My friend was supposed to move back to the states in May. His assignment got canceled last minute and he has been in limbo since, and is now leaving in October. His wife and kids already moved back to the states as she got a job in the area his assignment was supposed to be. In March the family got a puppy that they planned to take with them. If he had left in May it would not have been a problem. The puppy has now grown, and it will cost over $6500 to have him shipped back to the states. Because he has been paying for two households, he cannot afford the cost. Even with the recent benefit allowing him to get reimbursed up to $2000 for shipping a pet on military orders. He is at his wits end and currently plans on leaving the puppy with me. He and his family are extremely distraught at having to leave their dog behind. If we cannot raise the funds, I will make sure the dog gets a good home. I would much rather see him go to his family where he belongs. I have left names out for privacy reasons.
