My close friend, John Baca - Medal of Honor recipient, wants to immortalize the nurse who tended to him for over a year at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA, by ordering a plaque to honor her on Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial (where John has a plaque).
John threw himself on a grenade in Vietnam (saving 8 fellow soldiers from injury and death) in 1970, receiving extensive and near-fatal blast wounds. His almost year & a half recovery was aided in great part by his "Nurse Angie", retired Navy Captain Angie Liakos, who is now 93-years old, and in failing health. She is responsible for saving & healing many Veterans over her long & illustrious career. The roles have now been reversed, and John has lovingly been looking after her for quite some time. Since John has always helped so many people these past 50 years, I thought it would be a wonderful gift to him for us to purchase this plaque. Time is of the essence, so it would be great to reach this goal as soon as we can.
Any money received surpassing the $1800 goal will be donated to the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation. This is a charity that John strongly believes in, and contributes to on a regular basis.
Thank you to everyone contributing to this worthy cause!
