My dad, David J Birkett, has always been a man of honor, strength, and unwavering dedication. As a United States Marine (1990-1998) and former Presidential Guard, he served his country with pride, standing watch over some of the nation’s highest leaders. Now, at just 55, he faces a battle that even the strongest of men can’t fight alone.

Over the years, his health has drastically declined due to his 100% service-connected disability. He is a double amputee, blind in his right eye, and suffers from neuropathy in his hands, making everyday tasks incredibly difficult. He has 40% hearing loss, a stent in his heart, a pacemaker and defibrillator, and has survived multiple miniature heart attacks. In 2012, he had a minor stroke, and his eyesight continues to fade.

Despite these challenges, my dad remains the same proud Marine, never asking for help and never complaining. But the reality is, he needs support to regain his independence.

We are raising funds to help him purchase a wheelchair-accessible van so he can travel safely and comfortably. In addition, we need to remodel his home to make it fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring he can navigate his home with ease and dignity.
