Hi, and thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
My name is Shayda, and I am the second of three children. In October, our family received devastating news: my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This diagnosis has deeply affected our entire family, my mom, my dad, my sister, my brother, and the many friends and loved ones who care about her.
My mom is the kind of person who brings people together. She is always hosting gatherings, cooking meals, feeding everyone, and sending friends home with gifts—making sure no one ever leaves her home without feeling loved. She has a rare and beautiful ability to create community wherever she goes. After moving from Malaysia at just 18 years old, she built a life for herself from the ground up and created her own family far from home. The overwhelming number of friends who have reached out during this difficult time is a true reflection of the love, generosity, and care she has given to others throughout her life.
Over the past few months, my brother has spent countless hours researching and speaking with doctors. Through this, he found a specialist and a treatment option that has shown promising results for patients in situations similar to my mom’s. Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by insurance, and the estimated cost for the full course of care is between $250,000 and $300,000. Time is extremely important, and we are hoping to begin treatment as soon as possible.
While doctors have given her a difficult prognosis, my mom refuses to give up. She has made major lifestyle changes, completely changed her diet, and is doing everything she can to stay strong and hopeful. Watching her fight has been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
I created this GoFundMe because, in the face of so much uncertainty, this felt like one tangible way I could help my mom. We are holding onto hope and doing everything we can to give her the chance she deserves. If you know me personally you can Zelle me directly with my phone #.
If you are able to donate, share, or keep our family in your thoughts and prayers, it would mean more than words can express. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps bring us one step closer to giving my mom this opportunity.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Our family is so grateful.
