HELP A LOCAL HERO: Flooring Needed for 93-Year-Old Veteran
Meet Richard, a 93-year-old Korean War veteran and proud member of the Army National Guard. Richard has called Shakopee home since 1975—living in the same house for nearly 50 years. A retired carpenter, Richard built his life around hard work, family, and service to our country.
Since the passing of his beloved wife in 2021 and his daughter Debbie—his full-time caregiver—in May of this year, Richard now requires 24-hour care due to limited mobility and health challenges. He sleeps in a hospital bed in the living room and relies on a Hoyer lift to transfer to his wheelchair or recliner.
Here’s where we need your help:
The carpet in Richard’s living room and hallway made it unsafe and incredibly difficult for caregivers to use the lift. They started this whole process with a grant from the VA, which would not even cover half of the flooring replacement! His daughter Renee and her husband recently removed the carpet to reduce the risk of injury—but hard surface flooring is urgently needed to safely care for Richard.
Every time Renee visits, Richard asks:
️ “When is the new flooring coming?”
He deserves to be safe and comfortable in the home he loves.
Despite the challenges, Richard is cheerful, funny, and a favorite among caregivers. Now, we’re hoping our community can come together to help a man who’s given so much.
How You Can Help:
Whether it’s a donation, materials, labor, or simply sharing this post—every little bit helps. We have a manufacturer who will sell the material below cost to us, an installer who will be donating his time to install the flooring, and we (Infinite Floors Kitchens Bathrooms) will be contributing $1,000.00 towards his new flooring. Let’s show Richard the love and gratitude he’s shown this country.
Please reach out if you can help make this happen.
Thank you for supporting our local hero.
