In the space of approximately 30 minutes, our parents, Nick and Robyn, and our younger brother Chase lost their family home to a devastating fire.
Thankfully, the most important thing is that they are safe. However, they have been left facing the heartbreaking reality of losing their home, personal belongings and many of the memories accumulated over a lifetime.
A home represents far more than walls and a roof. It is where a family grows, celebrates milestones and builds a life together. For Mum and Dad, this was the home of a family they raised together - six children, countless memories and years of hard work - all changed in a matter of minutes.
Our father has worked as an agricultural pilot throughout Western Australia for more than 30 years. His career has been dedicated to supporting farmers, regional communities and the agricultural industry that helps put food on the tables of families across the state.
During the agricultural off-season, Dad has spent more than 10 years working as an aerial firefighting pilot. While others are moving away from dangerous bushfires, Dad has flown directly towards them, supporting firefighting crews and helping protect people, properties and communities.
His work as a fire-bomber pilot was also featured in the Western Australian documentary series Bushfire Wars, which followed the people working on the front line of some of the state’s most dangerous fires.
Our mum, Robyn, is a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to raising six children and creating a loving and supportive home for our family. The home that was lost was the centre of the life Mum and Dad built together and held decades of family memories that cannot be replaced.
Our younger brother Chase also lived at the property. Chase has recently begun his career as a police officer serving the Serpentine community. At the very beginning of a career dedicated to protecting and helping others, he has now also lost his home and personal belongings.
Dad, Mum and Chase have each spent their lives caring for, supporting and serving others in different ways. Now, following this devastating loss, they are the ones who need support.
We have created this fundraiser to help them through the immediate aftermath of the fire and begin the long process of rebuilding their lives. Donations will assist with essential expenses including:
- Temporary accommodation and living costs
- Clothing, toiletries and everyday necessities
- Replacing essential household and personal items
- Cleaning, demolition and property-related expenses
- Rebuilding and recovery costs not covered by insurance
- Other unexpected expenses resulting from the fire
The full extent of the loss and the costs ahead are still being determined. We will continue to update this fundraiser as we learn more and as the family begins the difficult recovery process.
Anyone who knows our family will understand that they are far more comfortable helping others than asking for assistance themselves. That is why we are asking on their behalf.
Any contribution, regardless of the amount, will help provide stability during an overwhelming and uncertain time. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, colleagues or community would also mean an enormous amount to us.
Our parents have spent decades building a home, raising a family and helping Western Australian communities. Chase is now beginning his own career of community service. We hope that, together, we can help them find their feet and rebuild after this devastating loss.
Thank you sincerely for your kindness, generosity and support.
- Ashley, Sean, Ben, Jake, Jacinta and Chase
