Hi,
My name is Trish Gallacher and I am writing to you all today to ask for your help.
There is a very special member of the Charters Towers Community who needs our support RIGHT NOW!
Tiffany Hopkins is the CEO of Prospect Community Services (Charters Towers Neighbourhood Centre), a wife, mother to seven children and most recently, nana to baby Florence. Her health journey began on the 29th March 2020 at 34 weeks pregnant when her vision rapidly declined and she was diagnosed with a brain tumour (meningioma).
Although meningioma are typically benign, Tiffany’s is in her left cavernous sinus causing enlargement and is inoperable. The tumour affects her pituitary gland and optic nerve and if left untreated will eventually cause a loss of vision.
Tiffany was diagnosed with a second brain tumour two days after her original diagnosis and delivered her son by emergency c section so that she could begin treatment to shrink the main tumour. By this time she had lost significant vision in her left eye. Tiffany’s neurosurgical team have continued to explore treatment options after deeming surgery to be too high risk.
On Wednesday 22nd December Tiffany flew to Brisbane to attend the Princess Alexandra Hospital Radiation Oncology Service for her planning session for 28 rounds of radiation only to receive another blow. The PAH could not deliver her treatment and she was referred to the Icon Cancer clinic at Greenslopes. During her intake she was presented with a bill for $12,000 which was an unexpected expense with only thirteen days till her first treatment. Her accommodation is already in excess of $3000 for the six weeks she must be in Brisbane. Tiff is determined to continue with her original treatment dates, 5th January – 14th February so that she can give herself the best chance of maintaining her vision so that she can watch her children and grandchildren grow.
Over the years I have witnessed Tiff give a great deal of time, love and true ‘Tiffany’ dedication to her community and now we have a chance to give back. She has set the bar high for showing others kindness and support without any expectation from others.
If you can give even just a little I know this family will truly appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read my blurb and thank you for your support.
