A homeless person posted a very polite note on Nextdoor asking for a sleeping bag, saying he needed help staying warm at night while sleeping under a tarp. He asked for no nasty comments as to why he is not in a homeless shelter, saying he tried that before and got beaten up, while refusing to give up his backpack someone tried to steal from him. He also offered to do work in exchange, but needing transportation as he had no vehicle or even a bike.

I offered to get him a sleeping bag, but someone beat me to it. When I asked what else hee needed, he asked for a small cooking pot and some metal utencils, as his plastic forks and spoons kep breaking while he was eating out of cans of food he was warming up on an alcohol can turned into a min-stove.

I brought him the cooking and eating utensils, as well as a waterproof winter coat, a hat, gloves, some food and some cash.

He is a thankful, appreciative, gentle person who told me a bit about all the misfortunes in his life and how he became homeless after having a family and home he supported by working to make a living. Following a dispute with an abusive employer, he admitted of making a serious mistake when he kept an old truck his employer let him use while working, when the employer stopped paying him. Of course the employer charged him with theft, that put him in jail for some months. Now with a criminal record he has trouble finding a job, while he has no drug use history ever.

He used some of the money I gave him to pay for cellphone service, so he can speak with employers about getting a job to get back on his feet.

I am now going to give him my prior iPhone 7 cellphone and since Spectrum offers a free year of unlimited service to people who have 2 lines, I am giving him this year of service with the phone, while paying an extra $5. to cover repair or loss of the phone, so he is assured of having a full year of cell use.

Now that the weather is turning quite cold here in Wilmington, Eastern North Carolina, I would like to raise funds to pay for a cheap motel room as a Christmas present for him, to keep him warm and also pay for his food.

My minimal goal is to raise $70. per day for the coldest part of the Winter to pay for the least expensive $50./day room and $20./day for food and hygiene items, he should be able to stay warm and feed himself, while looking for a job to get back on his feet.

Please help me help this humble and gentle homeless person get back on his feet?
I am going to pitch in a major portion, along with personal items, his new cellphone and also trying to get him some odd jobs as well.
