Hello friends,

We’re Leland and Alex — professional musicians based in Las Vegas. A few weeks ago, we were passing out lunches to homeless individuals near Boulder Highway when we noticed two small bikes with training wheels sticking out from a tarp. It stopped us in our tracks.

We found a family of four, including two kids, ages 5 and 6, living under that tarp. The father didn’t ask for anything — not even money — but simply asked if we had more lunches to feed his family. When he invited us to meet his family, two joyful, beaming kids' faces popped up at the tent's entrance. The parents came across as sincere and earnest and we learned they were trying to sell food stamps just to afford a couple nights in a nearby Motel 6.

We gave them some money so the family would have a place to sleep that night. (By the way, did you know a bug-ridden Motel 6 costs over $100 a night in Las Vegas?!)

Here was their shelter:

That night, we couldn’t stop thinking about them. We saw no signs of addiction or bad decisions — just a family down on their luck, caught in circumstances beyond their control. The next morning we talked about it and decided we had a unique opportunity to help this family.

The next day, we found them again, invited them to stay in our guest casita temporarily, and offered to help them build a path forward. They moved in on April 8th. Since then, they’ve made incredible progress.

Quinton and Wanda are working hard every day to create a better life for their two beautiful children. They are kind, respectful, and so, so grateful. They call us their “life coaches.” We call them courageous.
