Help a Homeless Family Find Housing
I have recently begun working with an *incredible* organization called Immigrant Defenders Law Center, or ImmDef for short (https://www.immdef.org/). They do amazing work on behalf of the most vulnerable individuals trapped in the web of our immigration policies. In particular, their Children's Representation Project is one of the largest in the country.
Currently, one of the families that ImmDef serves is in crisis. It's a single mother and her three children, all of whom are in a very vulnerable state. For the children's safety, they were forced to leave their previous home, and they're currently homeless. We have made several attempts to find transitional housing or a temporary shelter for this family, but to no avail. So *please* help us raise funds for this mother and her children. We'd like to help them rent a room and start to regain some stability, so that they may begin to heal from the trauma they recently suffered.
Your donation, in any amount, will make all the difference in helping this family find a new place to live. 100% of the funds raised here will be given to them directly. Every little bit helps, and you'll have made THE MOST INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE in their lives. If you are unable to donate yourself (or even if you are), please share this far and wide! And THANK YOU, so very much, for your help.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS PER GOFUNDME GUIDELINES:
1. Who I am:
My name is Cristine Reynaert, and I am a volunteer working with Immigrant Defenders Law Center to support immigrants suffering under U.S. immigration policy.
2. Where I am from:
Los Angeles, CA
3. My relationship to the party I'm raising funds for:
I have no relationship to the mother I'm raising funds for (aside from the relationship of one human being caring about another). I have been trying to help ImmDef when urgent needs arise for their clientele, especially when a need arises that falls outside of the legal work that they regularly provide for their clients. When ImmDef brought the story of this mother to me, and told me of her urgent need in finding housing for herself and her family, I set about trying to help -- initially, by contacting dozens and dozens of potential resources in the Los Angeles area that might be able to provide housing. When that didn't work out, I offered to create a specific fundraiser for the family so that they might receive financial support for renting a room.
4. How the funds will be used:
These funds will be given to the mother described in this story, so that she might afford the rent for a safe place to live for herself and her three children.
5. How the funds will reach the party you're fundraising for:
I will be withdrawing the funds on behalf of this family, and Immigrant Defenders Law Center will be facilitating the transfer of the funds to the mother.
