Help: A Higher Law: The Oberlin-Wellington Rescue
Donation protected
We are trying to complete the documentary "A Higher Law: The Oberlin-Wellington Rescue" but as we near the end, we realize we need a bit more money to help us reach the finish line. The project received funding from the Ohio Humanities Council and The Ohio History Fund which covered the cost of recording scholars, travel, and gathering historical footage. Still, it is not enough to cover recording reenactments and the final post-production costs. Your donations will go to pay for the following:
- Music Composition
- Graphics
- Location Fees
- Reenactment Actors
- Editing
Our goal is to raise at least $7000 to cover these additional costs.
Here's a brief rundown of the story of the rescue: In 1858, John Price, a former enslaved person, was captured in Oberlin, Ohio by slave catchers who were going to return him to his master in Kentucky. They were spotted taking Price out of town allowing word to spread through the area and a rescue party of white and black residents rallied to free John from his captors. They helped him get to Canada, but 37 were arrested for violating the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which could mean hefty fines and prison time. This led to a climactic trial where the power of the Federal Government came to bear on the rescuers. I'd say more, but we want you to see the final film.
Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated and help our small team produce a successful production.
Thank you,
