Hi,

I’m Alex, a 16-year-old high school junior with an incredible opportunity to spend 8 weeks in Japan through the 4-H Outbound Exchange Program. This journey includes domestic and international flights, four weeks of immersive language school, cultural camps, daily meals, and a homestay with a Japanese family.

I’m passionate about exploring cultures beyond my own, and this trip is a major step toward that goal. It’s also a chance to grow personally—traveling solo for the first time, learning independence, and stepping outside my comfort zone. I’ve always traveled with family or friends, so this experience will challenge me in new and exciting ways.

Beyond the adventure, this program aligns with my academic goals. I plan to apply to a college with a strong study abroad program, and having this experience under my belt will help me stand out and prepare me for future opportunities. The language school will help me connect with my host family, and I plan to continue studying Japanese afterward to deepen my fluency and expand my career prospects.

Experiencing life in a culture so different from my own will open my eyes to new perspectives and help me better understand people from all walks of life. I’m excited to learn, grow, and represent my community abroad—and I’d be incredibly grateful for your support.
