Together for Saio: Funding a Life-Saving AITL Treatment

We need your help to get Saio life-saving lymphoma treatment!

For his entire life, Saio has passionately worked to help others and make his home country, Sierra Leone, the best place for the current and future generations. Starting out as a teacher, Saio worked his way up to Vice Principal at an esteemed secondary school in Freetown. Saio recognized quickly how much work the education sector in Sierra Leone needed, especially in smaller towns and villages upcountry. His passion to create positive change moved him to become the education program manager with Peace Corps for Sierra Leone. After spending years as the best resource available for Peace Corps volunteers in the country, Saio continued his passion by creating and implementing teacher training programs with The Learning Foundation, all while battling lymphoma AND getting a master’s degree in Education.

Anyone who has met Saio has been moved by his selflessness, motivation, and passion for education. He is making a huge difference in Sierra Leone, and cares deeply for his country and everyone he has met. For his entire life, Saio has only given himself for the benefit of everyone else around him, and now is our chance to give back to him.

Today, our dear friend Saio has had a reemergence of his lymphoma and needs another round of medical care. He has been diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL), which requires a top of the line bone marrow transplant procedure to treat. Currently, Saio is in Kampala, Uganda receiving chemo treatment to put the lymphoma in remission, which is a required prerequisite for receiving the transplant procedure. Once he is done there, we will fly him out to a clinic in India that has the required facilities for the bone marrow transplant.

In total, the living and medical expenses in Uganda will come out to about $10,000. The bone marrow transplant procedure alone is an additional $22,000, plus flights and accommodation will bump it to around $25,000, bringing our grand total to $35,000.
