Help a Guitarist Keep His Blues Alive

Welcome, and thank you for your time and consideration.

My name is Ed Lozano, and I'm organizing this GoFundMe for my family and me.

I began to suffer from diminishing eyesight and severe mouth and face pain in early 2021. After various maxillofacial treatments, I had a 10cm growth removed from the roof of my mouth in February 2023. The biopsy results were benign.

I continued to experience headaches and facial and dental pain. But my diminishing eyesight and eye pain were my primary concern. Until uncontrollable shaking of my hands became a daily occurrence—the tumors were growing through my central nervous system.

This greatly affected my livelihood, as using the computer and playing the guitar are the means by which I make my living. In addition, the inability to see my cellphone, tablet, and computer made working and communicating an insurmountable challenge.

On June 21, 2023, I had an episode that altered my life, and I started losing my sight. At this point, I could barely see. I could see shadows but could not read signs, judge distances, or perceive any detailed information. The eye pain increased, and color recognition was now impaired—I could only see rd and green, and I confused them from time to time. My left eye was completely compromised.

After some preliminary medical investigations, I was diagnosed with optical neuritis—which is a swelling of the Optic Nerve. Upon further investigation, it turned out that I did not have optical neuritis.

The neurosurgeon came in and said, "Ed?! You don't have optical neuritis." He continued to speak for 3 minutes, and I only heard 3 words: brain, tumors, inoperable.

My life was altered. Through further investigation, it turned out that I had 4 tumors in my head. One compromises the brain, and the other 3 compromises the central nervous system.

So, on September 5, 2023, I began aggressive chemotherapy cycles, i.e., 7 chemo sessions in 5 days. Also, I've had many complications throughout the treatment. However, on the plus side, my eyesight is being restored due to the chemotherapy treatments.

I am not out of the woods yet. There are still other tumors to address. And we continued to address them.

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is incredibly challenging and, at times, difficult to deal with the pain and side effects.

My wife and I have spent over 120 days in the hospital since September 5, 2023, and my savings have been depleted.

As an emergency resort, we have put the house for sale to help alleviate the medical and living expenses accrued over time with my inability to work.

I'm asking for your help and would appreciate any size donation. The funds will go to:
  • Save my home
  • Medical expenses
  • Living expenses
  • Debts accrued due to my inability to work to my full potential.

I am still trying to work from the hospital room. I have a laptop and hospital wifi, but some of the treatments are incredibly painful and require days of bed recovery.

Any help will be received with much love, honor, respect, gratitude, and appreciation.

My wife and I are steadfast in our faith and working towards a full recovery, which may even be a few short months away.

Thank you for reading this message.

On behalf of my family, my beautiful wife Marcela, my two boys, Juan Pablo and Luis Miguel, and my troublemaking dogs, Sammy and Lucy, I'd like to express my gratitude, appreciation, and respect.

With heartfelt thanks and love,
Ed Lozano
