Help a Grieving Family Find Their New Normal

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Megan, I am making this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister and her family. On September 4, 2024, Matt and Krista welcomed their second child into the world. Their sweet baby girl was born at just 25 weeks and 5 days, due to her having a low heart rate in the womb. Lilah was flown via air medical services to Riley Children’s Hospital. She had an electrical heart issue that caused a heart block that resulted in their sweet girl needing placement of a pacemaker before she was even 24 hours old. The surgery was successful. A win. Then we discovered that Lilah had a grade 4 brain bleed, the most severe “grade” it could have been. With a lot of prayer, faith, and medical expertise provided by the staff at Riley Children’s Hospital the brain bleed was under control. Matt, Krista, and Lilah had a few good days and Lilah seemed to be stabilizing, but her condition continued to be back and forth. Lilah continued to fight despite her lungs collapsing, another surgery where a drain was placed in her abdomen to help release air filling in her abdomen, and metabolic acidosis. Again, the staff at Riley Children’s Hospital fought hard with our sweet girl to get Lilah’s labs back into a normal range. Despite their best efforts, Lilah’s heart walls began thickening, pacer induced cardiomyopathy, this caused her heart to not contract and relax effectively. Lilah fought for a hard twenty-two-day fight, but ultimately said her goodbyes to those here on Earth on September 26, 2024.

Matt and Krista are attempting to use the resources that they have available to them, including SNAP, Brightpoint, WIC, their church and family, but I am asking everyone who comes across this post to consider financially supporting Matt, Krista, and Jaxson over the next couple of weeks while they navigate their new normal. Matt and Krista stopped working abruptly when Krista had an emergency c-section, and they brought their tiny and frail daughter into the world. Krista is still recovering from her c-section as she is only 4 weeks postpartum, and they are grieving the loss of baby Lilah. Unfortunately, life continues despite how dark the storm gets. These funds will be used to reduce the burden for Krista and Matt. We recognize that people may not have the resources to donate financially, so if you should feel lead to help in another way, please reach out. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this post.
