Help a generosity angel heal from stomach cancer

In 2020 when so many people were sick with Covid-19, Faten, which means charming/beautiful in her language, decided she would help as many of her neighbors as she could. She posted her address locally on the NextDoor website and told people to pick up food at her doorstep since they couldn’t get out to shop. She even asked them what they would want. More than 100 families would come by and pick up the free food. And she continued this through October 2023 when she got sick. She didn’t know it was stomach cancer until months later.

Faten has always gone out of her way to help people. That’s just who she is, an angel of generosity. Even before Covid, she would go to the wholesale market and buy bulk food for her family of five, sharing fresh fruit and vegetables with her immediate neighbors. The food was always gone within a day. Many people started to come and greet her.

To Faten’s surprise she found that people were struggling financially. People would pick up a bag of food and leave a thank you note. Her 8 year old son would deliver food to old people who couldn’t get out. A sick woman who was vegetarian and couldn’t afford organic food was so thankful that every Christmas she sent a card with thanks.

Faten was doing this from their apartment. Her husband would carry 40 and 50 pound bags of food up to the second floor. Faten was working full time from home while taking care of her family of three young children. She loved what she was doing. People wanted to pay her but she refused. Neighbors would bring fruit from their fruit trees and take home free food. Even when she was tired she thought of feeding people.

In October 2023 everything changed. Whenever she would eat, Faten would have a lot of stomach pain. So she went gluten-free; then she thought it could be a food sensitivity. She had very little energy and lost 40 pounds in a few months. Then in February 2024 she vomited up a lot of blood. She was so weak that her husband actually carried her into the ER. Blood tests showed that she was severely anemic. She was admitted to the hospital for several days and given a blood transfusion. All sorts of tests were done. The endoscopy showed there was no pre- cancer. She was told she had chronic gastritis and was sent home.

Faten’s primary care physician felt there was something more going on. More tests were done. She was given an iron infusion and regained some strength. However in June at Faten’s insistance another endoscopy revealed that she had stomach cancer. Less than 2% of people, mostly men and mostly much older people are diagnosed with this cancer. The typical treatment is to remove the stomach. The news was devastating.

Faten has touched countless lives with her unwavering generosity. She now depends on you - the angels of generosity reading this GoFundMe campaign. As a two income family, Faten’s ability to work has been significantly impacted, adding financial strain to an already difficult situation. Even with the best insurance she now has a hospital bill of thousands of dollars which needs to be paid. The medical treatments, which include specialized care, are incredibly costly. And her husband has taken time off from his work every time Faten has needed his support; sometimes even three days a week. Without your financial support they will be overwhelmed.

Your generous contribution will help ease their financial burden and allow Faten to focus on healing and spending precious time with her husband and children. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a profound difference to Faten and her family.
