Help a Future Therapist Bridge the Tuition Gap
My name is Jenna and I am a disabled grad student in Seattle, WA working toward a masters in couples and family therapy. I am working two jobs, going to school and volunteering to qualify for internship next year (as required by my academic program). It is my goal to get licensed so I can help individuals and families learn to communicate and understand themselves better. I firmly believe that just as hurt people hurt others, healed people spread kindness and empathy to those they surround themselves with. Entire communities can heal when the members are better equipped to handle their stressors and strife. This is the force that drove me into a graduate program.
That is all well and good but my school raised tuition by 3% this quarter which doesn't sound like a lot but has made it so I do not have enough financial aid to handle all my fees and I can't cover the gap on my own as I had been doing. I took out a federal financial aid loan when I started and am accepting the max funds every term. Additionally I applied for hundreds of scholarships, and am looking into grants. The latter two can take months or even a year before they are awarded so they are not solutions that will help me in the short run.
This is where and why I am asking for help. I need $3,000 to cover my summer classes. This is the cost between what my loans cover and what I can handle on my own. I knew my tuition would increase but I did not expect it to be so steep.
My fingers are crossed that I can find and qualify/achieve an applicable grant soon but in the meantime I would appreciate the help covering my costs. Even if you can't personally pay anything to help me I would really appreciate it if you could share this campaign with others, hopefully by spreading this to my wider, interconnected community I can cobble together enough to get in. Thank you so much for reading this and thank you for your consideration.
