Help a Future Meteorologist Chase Her Dream

Hi, my name is Elina Sweeting and I’m a proud native of Key West, Florida, a Conch through and through, from several generations of islanders who’ve called Key West home.

This year, I am incredibly proud to be graduating high school, and I’m taking the next step toward fulfilling a lifelong dream: becoming a meteorologist.

Weather has always fascinated me, not just the thunder and lightning, but the science behind the skies. I also have a deep love for creative writing, and I believe both passions help me understand and share the world around me in unique ways. My goal is to study meteorology so I can one day work with the National Weather Service, warning and informing communities, just like those in the Keys, who are often in the path of powerful storms.

To get there, I will be starting my studies at a university in Central Florida. From there, I hope to either transfer to a university on Florida’s East Coast, where I’d have the opportunity to hopefully intern at the National Weather Service, or continue my education in Tallahassee depending on the progress of my coursework. (still waiting on 2 college application replies)

This journey means the world to me, but it comes with real financial challenges. I’m seeking support to help cover college tuition, dormitory expenses, and essential living costs as I start this chapter of my life.

My family is small now, many have passed on, including my beloved grandmother, who also had a passion for meteorology. I truly believe her love for the skies was passed down to me. With only a few in my family having attended college, I carry a deep sense of pride in being able to take this step, not just for myself, but for my family, my ancestors, and for the legacy of my last name.
