Hello! We are neighbors, Marianne and Lindsay, and we found a sweet little pup wandering the streets a few weeks ago. Initially, this fundraiser was to help us raise funds for his much-needed dental surgery because it looked like we would have to cover the cost personally. However, in a remarkable turn of events, Lindsay managed to get connected with a local rescue (after many, many hours of contacting every rescue she could find), and they are now covering all of Gucci's medical costs!
BUT, that's not the end of the story, or the end of this fundraiser. We plan to keep this fundraiser live and donate every dollar raised to Silicon Valley Pet Project, the rescue covering Gucci's care. All funds will go directly to his care, and any extra will be donated to their general medical fund for stray and abandoned animals in the Bay Area. If you'd like to donate directly to SVPP, please visit www.svpetproject.org.
Please read the update from 9/15 for more details. Thank you all so much!
About the Dog
A stray dog recently showed up in our neighborhood. Since then, my neighbor and I have been sharing the costs for his basic care—food, shelter, and veterinary essentials like exams, vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, and deworming.
He is very sweet, friendly, energetic and intelligent! The whole neighborhood recognizes him now from the many walks we take with him on a daily basis. He's also a celebrity at the local coffee shop. This Good Boy has a lot of love to give, and we want to help him live his best and healthiest life.
Why We’re Fundraising
At a recent vet visit, it became clear that he needs urgent dental surgery. He has broken and rotting teeth, gum disease, and signs of infection. One molar literally fell out of his mouth during his recent vet exam--and they were not touching his mouth. (I will never be able to unsee that horrible moment. Poor little guy.) The vet called it one of the worst dental cases she’s seen.
He’s only about seven years old, and this care could significantly improve his comfort and long-term health.
Estimated Cost
We’re seeking to raise $5,000 to cover:
Pre-surgical blood work
Dental cleaning and extractions
Anesthesia
Post-operative care and medications
We’ve already paid for his initial care, but this next step exceeds what we can manage on our own.
What Happens Next
We’re working to reunite him with his owner. However, we've learned that his owner is in a difficult situation herself and likely won't be able to give him the care he needs. We'd like to do what we can to ensure that, wherever he ends up, he gets a fresh and healthy start. If his owner can't keep him, we will find him a loving forever home--maybe with one of us, or maybe not. But he'll be well cared for!
If We Exceed Our Goal
Any funds beyond the cost of his dental care will be used to cover less-urgent but necessary veterinary care, like neutering and addressing his double cherry eye. After that, funds will be donated to the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, which experienced a fire in December and is currently operating with limited veterinary capacity.
