Hello! I am Kadijah Powell-Brooks, a first generation, third year Political Science and Comparative Women’s Studies double major at Spelman College. This upcoming summer, I am elated to announce that I have the opportunity to intern with Goldman Sachs in their Salt Lake City, Utah office. Goldman Sachs is my dream job, and I hope that this internship will put me in the door to show them that I am an exceptional candidate for employment postgrad.
My overall career goals in life reflects my personal upbringing and what I would like to see done to improve overlooked communities. I strive to establish a nonprofit financial literacy organization for minority children in at-risk communities and help mold them into financial leaders of the future. I plan to do this by incorporating some of the skills learned through my Goldman Sachs experience. My personal goals, which are being pursued now, are to change the narrative given to kids in at-risk communities and show them that their current situation does not define them, but is the foundation of achieving more. Being at Spelman proves this, but interning at Goldman Sachs will enhance this notion.
As grateful as I am for this opportunity, I unfortunately do not have the money to secure housing for the summer term. Coming from a single-parent household and attending the #1 HBCU, funds are extremely low. The cheapest, yet safest, housing option available would cost roughly $5500. The internship starts June 7th and ends August 6th, so I would need to have housing secured no later than May 25th.
