Help a firefighter with his final expenses

Hi, my name is Teresa Colegrove and my brother in love MELVIN “Mel” COLEGROVE has been a firefighter and paramedic for 40 years in GADSDEN Etowah County AREA. He’s given so much to so many. He always owned a boat of some kind and loved the river, waterskiing and boat riding. He loves his kids and would do anything for them. His grandchildren are the apple of his eye! He’s always been on the go and worked two jobs the entire 39 years I’ve been in the family.

7 years ago he was forced to retire from Gadsden fire because he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. His wife Deb had to quit work to care for him. Of course no one would write him a life Insurance policy because he had Alzheimer’s. Since the diagnosis, they’ve been holding their own but now sadly, the end has come and they have nothing extra for final expenses especially with the Covid crisis and the huge increases of everything! Nothing left to save! This man has always been there for everyone else who called 9-1-1 whether their house was on fire or they had a sick relative. He has a no resuscitate order because he doesn’t want to be kept alive with a poor quality of life. I wish I had the funds to pay for everything myself but sadly I don’t. Deb his wife is trying to cope with the recent sudden change in his quality of life and it’s devastating to be preparing to say our final goodbyes. She’s just not there yet. To be able to gift her with a little peace of mind with these donations being made for his final expenses would be a dream come true (these days) for them.

I can tell you this, I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Mel Colegrove! I’d just like to return a little love back to him and his family like he gave to so many. If you can spare anything, nothing is too small. I can promise you extra crowns in heaven for your generosity because Mel is that good of a guy, firefighter, paramedic, friend, father, son, uncle, grandfather, brother and husband!

We have been blessed these last 7 years and the time has flown by! He’s been healthy, active and happy considering. If you are familiar with Alzheimer’s you know how cruel the disease is. Our hearts are broken but we’re savoring every second we have with him.
