My name is Veronica Hernandez, and my life changed on Monday morning, 12/1/25, at 9:45 a.m. when my husband, Uriel Ortiz, called saying “me agarraron me agarraron” (they got me they got me).He was detained by ICE on his way to work. He had just stopped at Home Depot for tools something so simple and that was a routine for him and moments later he was pulled from his car and taken away from us. Uriel has no criminal record. He is a good man, a loving father, and the person who holds our entire family together.

Uriel works every single day, even weekends and holidays, just to make sure we have everything we need.He is the kind of person who helps anyone who needs it, the kind of person who brings light into every room. Our kids adore him. We adored watching him play soccer every Sunday. Now those Sundays feel empty. Our home feels quiet. And every night feels longer than the last.

I’m five months pregnant, and every day without him gets harder. I try to stay strong for our children, but they ask for their dad constantly, and it breaks my heart because I don’t have answers for them. I tell them everything will be okay, even when I’m trying not to cry. I feel the weight of this loss in every part of my life—emotionally, physically, and financially. The Christmas is coming, and instead of feeling joy, all I can think is they might not even have one this year.My kids miss him.

Uriel is still being held as we wait for a court date. We are doing everything we can to raise money for a lawyer and for his bond. Any amount helps—truly. Even sharing our story means more than you know.
