UPDATE: After a hard-fought battle, Brian took his final breath this afternoon, Thursday, January 22. Another husband, father, son, brother, and friend has been taken far too soon by cancer.
My daughter is facing an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time, and I am writing this on behalf of her and her family because she has hesitated to ask for help.
My young son-in-law, Brian Ahlborn, has been courageously battling cancer for nearly a decade. What began as treatable colorectal cancer—followed by an ostomy, countless treatments, and a hard-fought remission—has tragically returned in an aggressive form, spreading to his liver, lungs, bones, and brain. Over the years, he has been in and out of hospitals, enduring more than anyone should ever have to face.
During this most recent progression, he has been unable to work. My daughter, Jen, has been his primary caregiver while also being the only full-time income for their family. She has had to miss many hours of work and take time off entirely to care for him. They are also raising two children—an elementary aged daughter and teenage son—during this unimaginable time.
In the past few weeks, his condition worsened significantly. After being hospitalized and learning that there's nothing more that can be done for him, he was able to return home this week, where he will spend his remaining time surrounded by family and love.
He does not have life insurance, and medical bills and household expenses are going unpaid. The family is now facing the added burden of upcoming funeral expenses, all while preparing to say goodbye.
We are asking for help to ease the financial strain so my daughter can focus on caring for her husband, supporting her family, and making ends meet. Any donation, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page.
Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this devastating time.
