Hello, my name is Malika and I’m organizing this crowdfund on behalf of my family as we work to secure lifesaving care for my grandmother. The funds raised through these efforts will be applied to support medical care, medical transport, housing, food, medicine, a lawyer specializing in elder law, and other bills.

Just a few days after Mother’s Day, my mother, sister and I traveled to Connecticut out of concern after hearing my grandmother on the phone. When we arrived, we found my grandmother bed bound and in a great amount of pain. She had not moved in days. It was later, in the emergency room, that we found out she was experiencing double kidney failure and had been coping on her own.

From then on, my grandmother was hospitalized for two weeks and received inpatient dialysis treatment before transferring to a rehabilitation center where she could receive 24/7 care, necessary physical therapy to help her move around again, and travel to her dialysis appointments. Unfortunately, after a week at the center, insurance made the decision to no longer fund her stay.

My grandmother has now been discharged from the rehabilitation center, back home where, alone with my ailing grandfather, she is unsafe due to limited mobility and limited access to care.

My family has been exhausting all expenses traveling from New Jersey and Connecticut to try and meet her needs. However, we are unable to make the regular trip and have needed to pay out of pocket for her travel to-and-from the outpatient dialysis center. This treatment is VITAL for her health as my grandmother requires dialysis three times a week.
