Hi, I'm a volunteer in the Washington DC area. I helped match a family with a sponsor. They had been looking for some time and almost gave up when their oldest son wrote a heartwarming plea for someone to help and just had an impressive amount of maturity and honesty for his age that caught my heart. They were just approved and received their travel authorization last week. It's been a pretty stressful week for everyone. The approval came within 3 weeks of application! We are asking for any help you can spare to help the family pay for their airfare and get started here with small things like metro passes. Airfare is about $2500 total because summer prices are really high now. They have been living in a small village in Poland, but money is tight there, salaries are low and their temporary housing is ending. They made the decision to look for an American sponsor as the war kept dragging on and their initial location isn't a place they can stay any longer and they must move.
They will live with their sponsor who is going to help them get on their feet and basic needs. The family has 5 people, 3 children, ages 9, 12 and 15. They had to leave their dog behind when they fled the war, but we are happy to say the sponsor has an adorable cat who we think will help with the transition. The family is from Odesa and it just seems to fit. I won't post their photo to keep their privacy/safety, but I will share a photo privately if you wish.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
