On the afternoon of March 17th, around 3:00 PM, a devastating fire broke out in an apartment complex in Kingsbridge, Bronx—right below my cousin and his family’s home. Within moments, their lives were turned upside down.
The fire caused severe damage to their apartment, leaving them with little to salvage. What they’ve built over the years—memories, belongings, and a sense of stability—has been deeply impacted.
In the midst of this chaos, my cousin’s wife showed incredible courage and selflessness. She works at the daycare located in the same building where the fire started. As the situation unfolded, she helped evacuate all of the children in her care—ranging from under 1 year old to 5 years old—making sure they got out safely. At the same time, she knew her own 9-year-old son and her mother—who has been bravely battling cancer—were still upstairs in their apartment, trapped and unable to get out, and she was powerless to reach them. No parent or daughter should ever have to face that kind of fear, yet she continued to put the safety of others first in an unimaginable moment.
They were rushed to the hospital after inhaling a significant amount of smoke. Thankfully, we’ve been told they are doing okay, but the experience has been incredibly frightening and traumatic for the entire family.
The damage to their home is extensive. Their bedroom was completely burned, along with their clothes, important documents, and nearly everything they owned. The kitchen was also burned, the bathroom was completely destroyed, and the living room suffered significant damage, including heavy smoke impact throughout the space and their son’s area.
My cousin and his family are some of the most hardworking, loving people you could meet. They show up for others without hesitation and never ask for much in return. Now, they need our help.
We are raising funds to support them during this incredibly difficult time—covering immediate needs like temporary housing, clothing, food, and other essentials, as well as helping them begin the long process of rebuilding their home and their lives.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page with your community would mean just as much!
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this time <3
