Help Support a Hardworking Family Through a Life-Altering Injury
On May 7, my brother-in-law suffered a devastating accident while working as an RV technician — a career he’s poured himself into to support his wife, children, and grandchildren. While exiting an RV he was working on, the back of his boot caught on the top step. He fell hard, instinctively throwing out his hands to catch himself — a decision that changed everything.
The fall resulted in severe injuries to both arms, requiring an intense 7-hour surgery with rods, plates, and screws placed in both limbs. He currently cannot bend or use his arms at all and is facing a minimum of 6 to 8 months of recovery. For at least three more weeks, his arms must remain in splints. Even under the best circumstances, doctors say he may only regain 80% use of his arms.
To make matters worse, one of his arms is not healing properly. The surgical wounds are still oozing and may require another operation or extended treatment to avoid complications.
His wife — my sister-in-law — has had to take a leave from work to care for him full-time, with no PTO available her work graciously gave her two months off with pay to cushion the loss of income. Worker’s Compensation has not yet kicked in, and communication from HR has been minimal. When it does begin, it will only cover a portion of his income, and they will still be responsible for paying $900/month out-of-pocket to keep his health insurance active.
They are both overwhelmed physically, emotionally, and financially. The uncertainty about his recovery, the possibility of additional surgeries, and the lack of immediate income have created an incredibly stressful situation. Though his company has promised to find him a job to accommodate his new limitations, we all know that’s not always a guarantee — especially in the long run.
We are hoping to raise $50,000 to help cover the next 6 to 8 months of lost income, medical costs, insurance premiums, and basic living expenses while they navigate this life-altering journey.
If you feel moved to help, whether by donating or sharing, please know that every bit makes a difference. Your kindness and support will help lift a tremendous burden from a family that has always worked hard, loved deeply, and given generously.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.
