This family was not in a flood zone, so they did not have flood insurance, and while FEMA and the Red Cross have opened cases, they are still waiting to learn what help may become available. The only assistance received so far is a temporary Airbnb voucher for about 10 days, leaving them in urgent need of support as they begin the long process of rebuilding.

This family is also caring for two children with special needs, including a little girl preparing to start kindergarten who is nonverbal with severe autism. For her, losing her home meant losing every part of the routine that helped her feel safe—her bedroom, favorite toys, comfort items, familiar surroundings, and daily structure. Children with severe autism often rely on consistency to navigate the world, and having everything change overnight has been incredibly difficult for both her and her family. Before rebuilding can even begin, they need professionals to evaluate the home’s structural integrity, plumbing, electrical system, and septic system to determine what must be repaired or replaced.
