Help a Family of Five Escape Severe Abuse

We believe our Canadian friend’s severely controlling and abusive father is going to kill her, her 3 younger siblings and her mother. We are setting this up on her behalf because anonymity is extremely important to their safety.

Her father has abused her mother, as well as beat her and her brother. The father is a man with massive influence due to his money and has shown he can evade prosecution and is extremely manipulative. Her mother found out that he recently married his long time mistress overseas and now he says he is going to “get rid” of his current household in Canada whatever that could mean to him. They are not safe and need financial help immediately to relocate and rebuild their lives safely. The goal is to raise enough money for them to be able to leave immediately and fully relocate by March 2022, but hopefully much sooner. The funds will go towards:

• Purchasing a used car
• Car Insurance
• Lawyer fees
• New phones and plans
• Internet
• Rent
• Health Needs & Medication

Below are her own words and plea for help:

“Hello everyone,
I’m a South Asian woman in her mid 20s. I have two sisters who are minors, a young adult brother who is disabled due to a genetic condition, and my mom who is in her 50s. I am currently a Ph.D. student and tutor on the side to make some money. I am begging you to help me. We do not know what will happen down the road in a few months, so I need to be as resourced as possible. I am currently in the process of signing my mom and siblings up for assisted housing and other forms of support, but the wait times are variable. I have to do everything very carefully and in secret. We don’t have the luxury of time. My mom has been married for 25 years to this monster and my first memory in my life was when I was three and wiping her tears away and telling her not to cry. She has spent half her life in this hell. Our home life has been terrifying due to my father and I will explain why below:

Financial Abuse:

• My father has kept our family under his full financial control for all these years by never allowing my mother to make her own bank account or work, forcing her to be fully dependent on him.
• He commits tax fraud using our names and will not let us do our own taxes.
• He bugs my mom’s phone and my siblings’ tablets and laptops. She is too scared to contact her own family for help.

Physical & Emotional Abuse

• Constantly verbally abuses my mother in front of us & threatens us.
• Beat me and my brother as children.
• Has threatened several times to marry me off and said that he regrets educating me because I “know too much of the world”.
• I get phone calls from him belittling me and telling me that I am nothing because I am a woman.
• Last fall, he ignored Covid protocols and knowingly gave us all Covid, which some of us are suffering the longer side effects even a year later.
• Recently he beat my disabled brother severely and then encouraged him to commit suicide. My brother did try to commit suicide last fall and when my father found out he said he “wished he had succeeded.”
• I recently got a job and his first thing was to ask me if I had life insurance through my benefits.
• My mom has experienced infections because of his infidelity & is emotionally devastated.
• He also supports, financially and emotionally, my cousin who raped me when I was a child and never has done anything to protect me even while knowing this fact. It is so painful trying to go to sleep when this man is speaking loudly on the phone at night to this person and calling his name.

He has tried to bring his mistress here to Canada, but he cannot do it without kicking my mom and us out of the house or worse. He is becoming more erratic, scary, and unpredictable. This man has a lot of influence within our city due to his money, as he’s paid off lawyers, judges, and police. He is clever, and it’s hard to document everything because his threats have all been verbal. I am terrified for my mom and siblings. Please help me raise enough money for them to be able to leave immediately and fully relocate by March 2022, but hopefully much sooner.
