TLDR; Family of disabled current and former healthcare workers lost house to private equity firm, needs help raising funds to buy home in safe area close to mother's many specialist doctors

Hi, my name is Brenna Martin. My mother is Barbara Martin, and my brother is Jason Martin. They are both former EMTs (Springfield EMS), and I am a current healthcare worker. And as of today, we are homeless.

In November of 2020, my aunt, Susan Martin, a veteran EMT of 30+ years of service to the Springfield Township Volunteer EMS, passed away suddenly. She was the only one whose name was on the deed for our house, and because she didn't have a formal will, the bank took possession of it. For 5 years they seemed to be fine letting me, my mom, my older brother, and our pets continue living in the house. We tried multiple times to talk with the bank and lawyers about buying the house back, or even just renting it. But they had it up for auction, and seemed convinced that they could get more money from that than just letting us buy it back for the same price as the first time.

Now our time has finally run out. Some private equity firm bought the house, and as of June 3rd 2025 my family and I are unhoused. We have an extended stay booked at a hotel that is letting us bring our cat and parrot, but had to ask a neighbor to keep our dog until we can find a home.

I was approved for a mortgage of a maximum of $175k, which I thought was a miracle - that's more money than I've ever had! But because my mother has a lot of medical issues, we're trying to find a home close enough that she can keep all her specialists. And if there's one thing about the Delaware County PA area, it's that if you don't want to be stuck living in one of the more dangerous areas, you're looking at some big costs. I'm hoping to raise an additional $100k to broaden the limits of what houses we can look at. I know it's a big sum, and the moment we lock in on a house I will take down this GFM.
