Hello, my name is Cherryl Williams and I am creating this GoFundMe to ask for support to help keep my family's home in Coney Island, NY that will cover mortgage, tax lawyers, and legal fees. I am a single mother, homeless, and trying to raise funds to save our only family home which could be taken by the bank. My parents had been struggling with their health for years and both passed in 2020, leaving behind no will and back mortgage. In order for myself and my family to keep their home (that would also prevent me from being homeless), we must pay lawyer and administrative fees to get the house in a living family member’s name.

My family has experienced a huge amount of loss over the last year; I lost both my mother, father and husband very suddenly, and have been left with the financial affairs of 3 folks who have now passed. On top of this, due to my husband’s passing I have been left homeless and living out of hotels throughout Oakland, CA over the past month. My parents owned the only home in our family’s name, which is incredibly important to our families lineage and the beginning of our generational wealth and wellness. However, I am not able to move into this home without paying off the amounting debt that was accrued by my parents before their passing.

My parents left behind no will due to their failing health, and my father’s 20 year insurance plan is being withheld due to two missed payments after a severe stroke he experienced. The only house in my family’s name will be taken by the end of this next week if the mortgage payments are not fulfilled, and I will be left homeless and continuing to grieve. My goal with this GoFundMe is to pay off the amounting debt of this house, and to secure the deed in myself and my brother’s name so that we may be able to live and grieve peacefully.
