Six months ago my family embarked on a travel adventure, during a pandemic, to chase the sun. If we can't go inside of places, let's go outside TO places, right?
One of the many obstacles to accomplishing this trip was mindful planning for my children's school needs. The biggest obstacle being continuation of their Spanish immersion learning. I was connected to a wonderful woman named Helen through my friend, Jenny Marsh, who is also an educator in the Spanish program at my kids school.
Helen and Jenny are friends. I'm so thankful Jenny connected us because I had a need and Helen had a need. Honduras can be a difficult place to find work under normal circumstances, but adding a pandemic has made it almost impossible to get by for most families. Helen and her family have been surviving on almost nothing for a year now. Helen needed to make money while quarantining and I needed a Spanish tutor for my kids.
My family paid Helen $20 per week for an hour of Spanish tutoring. She had one other student and one other family helping. Her family has been able to survive on this extremely low wage.
We fell in love with Helen and her family. And they currently need some financial help. I am not sharing pictures of them because of security concerns. Helen doesn't want to be a burden and she doesn't want anyone to have to give her anything. But, truthfully, she doesn't have a choice. Her family needs it and she's willing to let Jenny and I try to get some donations together for her. This was not easy for her. She is confident this will be very short term. Once vaccinations arrive and Honduras starts opening up, she’s optimistic that she will be able to find work. She is very strong, proud and hard working. So, if you donate, thank you for your kind heart and for putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
I know many of us have been looking for opportunities to show love and help other people out during this last year. I'm bringing one of those opportunities to you now. Anything you can do to help this family will be so appreciated and will make a difference for them.
Thank you.
