A HOME ON THE EDGE, A FAMILY UNDER FIRE — FIGHTING COLLAPSE, EVICTION, AND A BROKEN SYSTEM

We’re fighting for tenant safety, accountability, and legal precedent — to help create lasting protections for all and prevent future collapses caused by landlord neglect. See June 3, 2025 clip (below) where I spoke before the NY City Council Hearing on Housing, about a few of the very issues described below in the 2 minutes testimony:

Goal: $35,000
Deadline: 15–30 Days (Next Court Trial Day: July 21st)
Family of 4 (including 6-year-old daughter)
NYC | GoFundMe

NOTE: The cover photo is of a bldg. that collapsed in NYC, yet not ours. Ours has cracks that indicate it will collapse in our bedroom corner of the bldg. just like the one in the photo. That is what we are fighting in court to prevent.

OUR BUILDING IS COLLAPSING — AND OUR FAMILY IS PAYING THE PRICE.
We live on the top floor of a NYC building that is actively collapsing under our feet.
Instead of making repairs, our landlord is trying to evict us — for daring to speak up and advocate for structural safety.
Cracks stretch across our home. The floors have caved in over six inches. Doors jam shut in entrapment. Mold spreads across our apartment. Our 6-year-old daughter can’t even play safely at home anymore.

We’re not just fighting for our home — we’re trying to stop this building from hurting more people. This is a crisis of survival, dignity, and justice.

⚠️ SIGNS OF STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE:
  • Floors have sunk 6 inches in the center of our apartment
  • Ceilings are sloping, signaling ongoing collapse
  • Interior walls are sinking from the ceiling and floor
  • Nails are popping up from the floor and door frames
  • Cracks are spreading rapidly, especially along the exterior bedroom wall facing Broadway
  • The entire unit north wall leaks severely and has mold throughout
  • Our bedroom doors, pantry and front door jam shut, trapping us inside
  • The apartment has abnormal structural movements daily
  • We are now experiencing 90% more floor squeaking than in the prior 28 years
  • All rooms are affected with sloped and shifting floors and walls, creating life-threatening instability

This is not just "disrepair." This is life-endangering structural failure.

WHO WE ARE:
We are a family who once lived in joy, love and creative service — and now struggle to survive in a space collapsing around us.
  • The Father (The Lover): An architectural professional who lost his job for protecting lives over profit
  • The Mother (The Beloved): Homeschooling teacher, photographer, creative, full time mother
  • Our 6-year-old Daughter (Our Astronaut and Universe): Homeschooled, creative, funny, joyful — now heartbroken that “home” is no longer a safe place... unable to play freely
  • The Grandmother (Scientist & Healer, who developed medicines for cancer): Now a fully dependent disabled elder, awaiting elsewhere due to our unsafe home

THE PERSONAL COST:
  • I sleep less than 3.5 hours a night (with few exceptions), often with clenched fists and jaw
  • I work 143+ hours/week learning how to legally self-represent in court and more
  • I’ve developed asthma from long-term mold exposure
  • I’ve lost over 25 pounds from burnout exhaustion
  • I now suffer chronic stress syndrome, confirmed by medical specialists
  • My vision has deteriorated from long screen hours on the case
  • My Beloved "had it" and wants to move away from “civilization
  • My daughter cries, saying: “you don’t play with me anymore…”

We’ve lost nearly everything, starting with "peace" and “health” — yet I keep fighting, not only for us, but for every family in this building and beyond.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN
Landlords get away with 'decades of neglect'.
Buildings rot from the inside while being "cosmetically patched."
Codes and laws are ignored. Costly structural problems are C O N C E A L E D.

And when tenants demand safety — they get evicted, not protected.
We are now in active trial, defending ourselves without legal representation, fighting to save our home and expose the truth. We are standing for 30+ other tenants and families whose lives are also at risk.

WHY WE NEED $35,000:
  • To stop the eviction and keep a roof over our heads
  • To sustain the win we will achieve in court while self-representing — if we win but can’t pay what the judge orders, we loose the case
  • To sustain the win = means to create the legal precedent
  • To create protections for all tenants against collapse per landlords' negligence
  • To help the fight for justice, safety, and truth
  • To protect not just our family — but every other tenant in this building
  • To bring my mother (the grandmother) home to continue 24/7 family care for her
  • To prevent the next deadly collapse

THIS IS BIGGER THAN JUST US
This is about everyone’s Right to Live in a structurally safe home.
It’s about holding landlords accountable before people die.
It’s about changing a system that punishes the innocent and protects negligence.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
This case is the start of a broader mission:
  • I will advocate for updated building codes to prevent future collapses
  • I will push for mandatory certified professional roofers to address leaks and damage properly
  • I will demand Lead Abatement reform — ending deceptive practices like “encapsulation,” which hides structural problems and put lives at risk
  • If necessary, I will bring these issues to lawmakers — because no child should grow up in a collapsing home, and no family should fear for their lives inside their own sanctuary
  • There is no law that mandates structural inspections for buildings 6 stories and under, or over a certain age, even if over 100 years old (like ours); and we need to change that.

Home is sacred. It is where love grows, where family is nurtured.
No landlord has the right to destroy that.

Please share your housing struggles and concerns, and above all the things you know can and must improve. We can all brainstorm together about changes that are necessary... to act upon.

A HIGHER TRUTH: OUR BIRTHRIGHT
From my book (to be published) on defending housing rights and life safety:

If God created the universe and the Earth, and we arise from Mother Earth, how can humans claim to “own” what we did not create — only to deprive others of it?

We are made from the dust of this Earth, born from it. We all have the right to live upon it and nourish from it. We are all shareholders of this Earth… and we are to share it, not steal it from others.

The Earth belongs to all her children. If every square foot is “owned” by someone, then where is an evicted family supposed to go? Eviction is a violation of Natural Law. It is exile without where to go — a spiritual and humanitarian crime.

Without wrongdoing, it is a greater punishment than those given to criminals, who are housed, fed, and medically treated behind bars — all while families like ours are pushed out into nothingness.

Heartfelt thanks to Adam (UMTU) for the idea and fundraising offer, Louise (HC Help Center) for her persistence, Melissa (The Deerfield Tenants) for her connections, and Gabriela (District 7) for the clarity.

PS: Building maintenance fraud and structural problems do not discriminate any class when an industry is corrupt. Our problem is not exclusive:
