To all of the good hearted humans of the world my name is Connie Jean I am a 42 year-old mother and small business owner with a story that is becoming more and more common. I was diagnosed with two rare types of terminal cancer just over a year ago. The reality of my situation is that not everything in Nova Scotia is free when it comes to our medical system, nor is everything 100% covered there are different directions where different things are covered refunded or direct billed but not all. As well, some things are classified as cosmetic, even though they were caused by or a result of the cancer. Things they don’t tell you like chemo breaks teeth, but teeth are considered cosmetic. (My share of dental surgery was 350.00) So as I watch my body wither away, I also watch Bill‘s pileup. Unfortunately your bills don’t wither away when you do. So with that being said I’ve always been a strong determined, independent and driven woman who until now was too stubborn or unwilling, couldn’t find the words, to ask for or receive any help. For those that know me, know that for me to speak up and ask says enough. Cancer has been the hardest battle I’ve ever fought. I know I will not win this battle (although I’ve out lived my given expiry date ) but I will not stop fighting, even in the face of total loss (business, house, car ..) I still have a few surgeries and a dream I’d like to make happen. I want to see Banff springs and smell mountain air. Fair trade for giving up a lung ahaha so I finally stand to ask and say .. I need help. ❤️
