Help a Dude Get His Leg Back

Dear community and beyond,

In a moment that changed me and my loved one’s lives on December 28th, we found ourselves trapped inside a harrowing house fire. I woke up coughing from the intense amount of smoke from flames spreading uncontrollably throughout the house. Without a second thought, I leaped into action to help rescue my family. We all barely made it out of the house alive. We unfortunately lost several pets from the fire. While we are beyond thankful to be alive, we all are working to grapple with the profound aftermath of this traumatic event. Adding to the complexities, I now struggle even more to navigate my life as a chronically ill disabled individual. This, coupled with existing as a low-income individual, amplifies one of the biggest hurdles to overcome- the loss of my KAFO prosthetic leg brace. Without my brace, I can’t walk correctly, or I’m in so much pain that I can’t walk at all. I now rely on my wheelchair, limiting my ability to do many daily tasks. Insurances are kicking back the coverage for my destroyed KAFO prosthetic. The price ranges anywhere from $6,900 to $15,000 for my superhero leg.

My goal is to raise enough money to replace my brace, cherished lost items, medical expenses, and daily expenses (food, rent, bills, etc. money for medications not covered by my insurance, a proper wheelchair, and ADA devices to make daily tasks less painful.) This journey of resilience involves not only a physical recovery but also an emotional toll, necessitating the cost of therapy to mend the wounds within that I can’t afford. Therapists who specialize in trauma can be incredibly pricy. Facing the challenges of my condition, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) I’ve endured a total of 8 weeks of costly hospitalization stays last year due to CRPS and other medical disabilities I live with. Highlighting the severity of my condition, CRPS is known as the suicide disease in London due to the high capacity of people who take their own lives from to the pain and suffering the illness unleashes on the body. This has made it hard for me to financially support myself because of these long painful days that lead to hospital stays and to the days where I can’t get out of bed. I am unable to work steadily at times. Making me struggle to get by.

As we start to rebuild our lives, me and my loved ones are confronted with the daunting traumatic memories from this event and the hefty task of replacing the belongings that held memories and comfort. In this challenging time, I humbly thank you for the warmth of your support.

Your kindness is the beacon lighting our path as we embark on this profound odyssey of healing, hope, and rebuilding what was lost. Thank you for standing with us in our time of need. If you are not able to donate, I would be so thankful to anyone who shares this.
