Help a dog shelter to survive
The Land of Happy Dogs is a dog shelter in Bosnia and Herzegovina, built by the nonprofit animal welfare organization “Srce za Sapu” (Hearth for the Paw). The shelter, located in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina near the city of Sanski Most, was built completely with private savings from organization members and private donations, without any help from the government. The founding members - a few animal care enthusiasts - have fought a hard battle to buy a land and get the building permit in the country that is not very friendly to animals and sees stray dogs only as a burden. After years of fighting, they have managed to buy the land that spreads over 18.500 square meters, as big as three football fields,to partly build a shelter and open it in 2019.
During all these years they have been saving, taking care of and adopting hundreds of dogs that otherwise had no future. All these dogs have been saved from horribile conditions, living like strays, going through daily hardships of life on the streets, illnesses and torture. And they all got their second chance in this place.
But the survival of the beautiful Land of Happy Dogs is now very questionable. There are currently 107 dogs in the shelter, and the amount of monthly costs are little below 2000€. A small group of people donates each month, but unfortunately this is just not enough. The shelter struggles every month to cover the costs (food, veterinary costs, transport and operating costs). Furthermore,the new virus COVID-19 is making the whole situation even harder, disrupting the process of adoptions.
Lets help this place to survive! If the shelter closes, these happy faces are destined to death or worse. This shelter is one of the few safe places in Bosnia and Herzegovina where people actually care for animals. A place where dogs are not in cages, where they are healthy and well fed. Just look at the dog photos and it will be clear how much good work these people are doing. In this place they have a future, a very promising future, let’s not allow it to get shattered.

The Land of Happy Dogs ist ein Tierheim in Bosnien und Herzegowina, welches von der gemeinnützigen Tierschutzorganisation „Srce za Sapu“ (Ein Herz für die Pfote) erbaut wurde. Das Tierheim liegt im südlichen Teil von Bosnien und Herzegowina, in der Nähe der Stadt Sanski Most. Es wurde zur Gänze mit privaten Ersparnissen von den Gründungsmitgliedern und privaten Spenden gebaut. Die Gründungsmitglieder -einige Tierpfleger - kämpften hart, um ein Land zu kaufen und eine Baugenehmigung zu erhalten, und das in einem Land, welches nicht sehr tierfreundlich ist und streunende Hunde nur als Belastung ansieht. Nach jahrelangem Kampf, ist es ihnen gelungen, eine über 18.500 Quadratmeter große Landfläche, so groß wie drei Fußballfelder, zu kaufen. Somit konnte das Tierheim 2019 seine Pforten öffnen.
In all den Jahren haben sie hunderte von Hunden, die sonst keine Zukunft hätten, gerettet, gepflegt und adoptiert. Alle diese Hunde wurden vor schrecklichen Bedingungen gerettet: leben wie Streuner, Krankheiten und Folter. An diesem Ort bekommen die Vierbeiner eine zweite Chance.
Aber, das Überleben des “Land of the Happy Dogs” hängt jetzt in der Schwebe. Derzeit sind 107 Hunde im Tierheim, und die monatlichen Kosten liegen etwas unter 2000 €. Das Team bemüht sich jeden Monat um die Deckung der laufenden Kosten (Lebensmittel-, Veterinär-, Transport- und Betriebskosten). Eine kleine Gruppe von Menschen spendet jeden Monat, aber leider reicht das nicht aus um diese Kosten zu denken. Darüber hinaus erschwert das neue Virus COVID-19 die gesamte Situation und beeinträchtigt den Adoptionsprozess.
Helfen wir diesem Ort zu überleben! Wenn das Tierheim schließt, sind die Vierbeiner dem Leben auf der Straße ausgesetzt. “The Land of Happy Dogs” ist einer der wenigen sicheren Orte in Bosnien und Herzegowina, an denen sich Menschen um Tiere kümmern. Ein Ort, an dem Hunde nicht in Käfigen sind, sondern wo sie gesund und reichlich Platz zum Auslauf haben. Auf den Fotos und dem Video sieht man, dass es den Hunden gut geht und wie viel gute Arbeit die Pfleger leisten. An diesem Ort haben die Hunde eine Zukunft. Lassen wir nicht zu, dass diese zerstört wird.
