Hi, my name is Josh Adkison, and I’m a disabled U.S. veteran living in North Fort Myers, Florida. After proudly serving my country and working hard for years — including 10 years as a tow truck driver — my life took a turn I didn’t expect.
In August of 2024, I lost my job due to serious health issues. I now live with constant pain, weakness in my legs, and very limited stamina. Holding a traditional job is no longer an option for me. But I’m not ready to give up. I want to build something for myself and my family — and give back to my community in the process.
That’s why I’m starting a small kayak rental business.
Southwest Florida is full of beautiful water and hidden natural spots. I want to help locals and tourists experience it affordably — starting with just a few kayaks and working my way up. My long-term dream is to make it a donation-based service for veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities who may not otherwise get a chance to enjoy the water.
But I need a little help to get started.
What Your Donation Will Help With:
Kayaks, paddles, and safety gear
A small trailer or kayak rack for transport
Permits and insurance
Marketing materials and website
I’m not asking for a handout — I’m asking for a chance. A chance to work for myself, stay active in a way I can physically manage, and rebuild a future doing something meaningful.
If you can give anything — even $5 — it will bring me one step closer to launching this business. If you can’t give, I completely understand — just sharing this would mean the world.
Thank you for supporting a disabled veteran trying to stand back up, one paddle stroke at a time.
– Josh
