Help a Disabled Veteran Rebuild Her Life

This is for Susan Buggell, a disabled Army veteran whose disability payment is being withheld until December, 2025 to repay her 2014 discharge severance payment. The amount to be repaid is $26,079.32. Her VA disability rating is 100 percent; she has no other source of income and is unable to work. She is currently in a shelter in New Mexico, seeking help for years of trauma. She attended University of New Mexico before joining the Army and serving 13 years, with tours in Iraq and Kosovo. She can only stay at the shelter until June. In addition, during a physical therapy evaluation at the New Mexico VA, her left knee was re-injured, leaving her on crutches.

Her hardship case is working through the VA system, but her unpaid bills are piling up; she is in danger of losing phone service, bank accounts have already been closed, and fees and charges are piling up. This threatens to crush her under a mountain of debt and leave her in a financial hole so deep there is no climbing out.

Funds raised here will be transferred to Susan via CashApp as needed until her banking situation settles.

Should Susan's hardship case result in her receiving disability payments, any funds raised here will be used to pay off the VA debt as quickly as possible so Susan can try to build her life without that financial threat.
