I have a friend that needs a little help.
Her name is Jan Downs.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
She’s feeling beaten down by the universe.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
She had a job lined up but then it lost its funding and her VA claim she was counting on has been denied.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
She no longer has access to reliable transportation. Having to use public transport in Austin is hard enough—we know what a mess the public transit in ATX is—having to use it to get to job interviews on time is extra difficult.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
My friend is in real danger of being evicted.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
She won’t ask for help herself because she feels undeserving and unworthy.
She’s in a really dark place right now and simply trying to do the right thing by finding a job to pay her bills.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
So I’m asking for her. I know times are tight for so many of us. I know that feeling of being behind the 8 ball and not seeing any way out of a scary situation. Because I know these things intimately and because I’ve been lifted up and helped by the kindness of family, friends and strangers--I feel the imperative to help someone that is hurting and scared and broke just like I have been in the past.
My friend is a disabled veteran.
Plus she’s a really cool person and if she gives in to the darkness, the world will be a less beautiful place.
Jan Downs needs your kindness.
She could use a little mercy now.
