Hi, my name is Maya. I’m 20 years old, Autistic, and permanently disabled. Since I was 5 years old, my cat, Suger Plum Bandit (intentionally misspelled because I was only 5 years-old when I named her) has been my constant companion and emotional support animal. She has been with me through every stage of life; offering comfort, stability, and unconditional love when I’ve needed it most.

Recently, Suger suffered a devastating medical crisis. Undiagnosed high blood pressure caused her left retina to partially detach, leaving that eye blind. Her right eye is filled with severe hyphema (bleeding inside the eye), which is so dense that the specialists cannot visualize the retina, but they strongly suspect it is also detached. This means Suger is now blind with very little hope of recovering any vision.

We rushed to the ER for emergency care, and Suger now needs ongoing treatment, including follow-up with a veterinary ophthalmologist and an internal medicine specialist, as well as daily eye drops and blood pressure medication and monitoring.

This campaign is being set up by my mom, who is also my primary caregiver. To ensure transparency, all funds will be placed in my ABLE or Special Needs Trust account, where they will only be accessible for the care and support of my ESA. Funds will cover:

* The remaining balance for the emergency ER visit already completed

* Upcoming ophthalmology specialist care

* Internal medicine specialist evaluation and follow-ups

* Ongoing medications and blood pressure monitoring

* Modifications to our home to make it safer and more accessible for a blind cat

Suger has cared for me for the past 15 years as I learned to navigate in this world with my own disability and now I need to care for her.
