A Teacher’s Heart Never Stops Giving—Now It’s Our Turn to Give Back

Teachers are the heart of our communities, shaping the future one student at a time. Today, one of these selfless heroes needs our help. A dedicated teacher from Central Texas, with 28+ years of service to her students, has faced an extraordinary series of hardships in 2024—and there’s no end in sight.

This journey of trials began in December of 2023 when her husband was involved in a horrific accident, leaving him hospitalized for over two months. Unable to work during his recovery, their household income was drastically reduced. Even now, he’s only able to work part-time at best.

To make ends meet, this resilient teacher took on a second full-time job while continuing to pour her heart and soul into her classroom. She’s been working 40+ hours a week as a teacher AND another 40+ hours at her second job. But life had even more challenges in store.

In June, she underwent cervical neck fusion surgery, which led to multiple hospitalizations in June and July due to complications. This was further compounded by severe kidney stones. When her condition didn’t improve, she underwent a series of biopsies in August to identify the cause and seek a treatment plan.

Just before Thanksgiving, another crisis struck. She developed a stomach ulcer, leading to another hospital stay where she was diagnosed with sepsis. During this visit, doctors discovered a mass in her stomach, requiring additional biopsies and further medical attention. Her ongoing struggle with kidney stones continues.

Teachers in Texas have a limited number of personal, sick, and vacation days each year. After 28+ years of selfless service, she’s exhausted every single one of those days—plus any extra she’d accrued. With no more leave time available, her ISD (Independent School District) has begun deducting roughly $400 from her monthly paycheck.

Her second job, which was essential to keeping up with their household bills, is no longer an option for the foreseeable future. With mounting medical bills, reduced household income, and the everyday cost of living, she’s at a breaking point.
