Update 7/3: Nyki flies back to Florida 7/27 to start the pre-op process again, the surgery will take place 7/30 now that her hemoglobin is stable.
Update 5/21: Nyki will be going in for 2 scans on 5/27 and after that she will be looking at rescheduling surgery
5/6 update from Nyki
During my pre-op testing, some abnormalities were discovered, and my hemoglobin level was found to be 8—which is considered quite low. I received an iron infusion yesterday morning, but unfortunately, my transplant surgeon can’t move forward with the surgery until my hemoglobin stabilizes at a higher level. Since iron infusions take 2–3 weeks to reach their full effect, the timeline has been delayed. In the meantime, I’m scheduled for two additional tests to check for any active bleeding or to confirm that this is purely anemia. Once all of that is resolved, I’ll be able to get back on the surgery schedule. To say I’m upset would be an understatement…
I will return home until we have a solid plan.
UPDATE: Nyki goes in for pre op 5/1 and surgery date is 5/5
I’m reaching out to ask for your support for an incredible woman—a devoted wife, loving mother of four, a daughter and sister, hardworking graduate student, and dedicated employee—who is facing a life-changing surgery.
She has been diagnosed with Nutcracker Syndrome, a rare and extremely painful condition affecting her kidney. To regain her health, she needs a complex procedure called a renal auto-transplant, where her kidney will be relocated to improve blood flow and function. Because this condition is so rare, her surgery must take place out of state at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, under the care of a top specialist.
While this surgery offers hope for a pain-free future, it also comes with major challenges. She will have to take an extended leave from work, all while juggling school and caring for her four children. On top of medical expenses and lost wages, she’ll need to stay in Jacksonville for three weeks after surgery for close monitoring, which means covering the costs of lodging, food, and other essentials—all adding to an already overwhelming financial burden.
This is where we come in. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help with medical bills, travel expenses, lodging, and daily household needs while she recovers. If you’re unable to give, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to her and her family.
Let’s come together and support this strong, selfless woman so she can focus on healing without the added stress of financial hardship. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
