Help a Dedicated Teacher Walk Again & Return to Her Students

My sister, Sandra, has dedicated her life to teaching special education students, giving them the love, support, and guidance they need to succeed. Teaching is her passion, and she has always gone above and beyond for her students. But now, she needs help.

Her love for teaching comes from our late parents, who instilled in us the power of education. Our mother was a fierce advocate for learning, always believing that knowledge could change lives. Our father, who immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as a young adult, worked tirelessly to build a better future and held education in the highest regard. Their values shaped my sister’s dedication to her students, and it is her greatest wish to return to the classroom to continue their legacy.

Sandra has endured a long and painful medical journey. She has endured multiple surgeries throughout her life due to lupus. Her current medical crisis began with an initial spinal surgery that led to severe complications. A second surgery was necessary to remove an infection, and then a third, much larger and more extensive surgery was needed, including a spinal fusion. Throughout it all, she remained determined to heal and return to the classroom.

Unfortunately, after her second surgery, her school would not approve additional leave for the third surgery, forcing her to resign from the job she loves. This left her without income or health insurance at the worst possible time—right when she needed another life-altering surgery.

She bravely fought through rehab after her third spinal surgery, working hard to regain her strength. But just as she was making progress, she was hospitalized again due to yet another post-surgical infection. Now, she faces mounting medical bills and another round of rehab before she can even begin to rebuild her life.

Despite all of this, my sister’s spirit remains unshaken. Her dream is simple: to heal, regain her ability to walk, and return to the classroom, where she can continue making a difference in her students’ lives. But she can’t do this alone.
