Help a dedicated RN recover from severe injuries!

Hello, this is Crystal Grooms Haynes and Doug Grooms and we have created this GoFundMe on behalf of our sister, Amber Grooms Morey. On Tuesday evening (5/23/23), after working a 12-hour shift as an ICU nurse, Amber was struck head-on by another driver who swerved into her lane at a high rate of speed (the accident occurred on Highway 412 near Alpena, Ark). She was trapped in her vehicle for a prolonged length of time, extricated, then airlifted to CoxHealth in Springfield, MO. She is currently in the Neuro-Trauma ICU with injuries including fractures to her cervical spine (C6, C7), lumbar spine (L5), right femur, right ankle, and left arm. She also suffered penetrating trauma to her abdomen from one of the levers on the steering column. She will undergo the first of several surgeries tomorrow.

Amber had only been back to work for 2 days after taking 3 months off to care for her oldest daughter, Chloe, who needed surgery to remove multiple tumors from her spine as a result of NF2 (neurofibromatosis, type 2).

Our family prides itself on hard work, positivity in the face of adversity, and a dedication to giving to others. Amber has raised 3 kids (who are now amazing adults) while putting herself through nursing school. She traveled throughout the country during Covid to care for others while being away from her own family for months at a time.

We are humbly asking for assistance to help cover expenses associated with her injuries. While we expect her auto insurance to cover some of her medical expenses, she will have other expenses that will wipe out her savings. Because she had only worked 2 days for her new employer, she does not qualify for any short-term disability benefits. She wants to get back to work as soon as possible but realistically it will be months before that will happen.
