For the past 15 months, I have been fighting to see my children. I am a Deaf mother, a full-time student, and I live on a limited income. Despite that, I was just ordered to pay child support, while my parenting time is still not happening at all. This situation didn’t happen because I walked away from my children. It happened because of a legal and logistical barrier that has been used to keep me from them.
After I moved to Oregon, I was told I could see my kids anytime. Instead, I was suddenly placed under a supervised visitation order. Since then, every attempt I’ve made to visit has been blocked or broken down. I made eight separate trips to California in 2025 trying to see my children. Each time, something fell through. The core issue is this: the visitation center refuses to provide ASL interpreters, and without effective communication, visits cannot legally or safely happen. At the same time, the court will not lift the supervised visitation order until visits actually occur. So I am stuck in a loop where: I cannot access visits because of lack of ASL accommodation, and I cannot move forward in court without those visits happening. Meanwhile, my children are growing up without me.
I am doing everything I can. I am documenting. I am advocating. I am showing up again and again. But this process requires legal support, travel, and resources that I simply do not have. Funds will help cover legal fees and rehousing in Placer County, so I can be closer to my children and have the support needed to fight for my rights as a Deaf parent.
I am not asking for anything beyond a fair chance to be a present, consistent mother in my children’s lives. If you feel moved to support, share, or donate, it truly makes a difference. Thank you for helping me keep going.
